Several questions about the compound remain unresolved. The durability of weight reduction after treatment stops, the frequency of gastrointestinal side effects, and the long-term cardiovascular profile are topics of ongoing study. Regulatory submissions and phase 3 trial outcomes have not been fully reported in the public literature. Because most available data come from controlled trials rather than general-population use, conclusions about effectiveness outside study settings are provisional. The distinction between established findings and open questions matters when interpreting early coverage of the drug.
Retatrutide is an investigational peptide developed by a pharmaceutical company as a multi-receptor agonist for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes. The compound emerged from research into gut-hormone analogues that act on several receptors simultaneously rather than on a single target. Early preclinical work examined how combined activity at three distinct receptors might produce greater metabolic effects than single-receptor compounds. Published phase 2 results have described substantial reductions in body weight among participants, although the compound remains unapproved in most jurisdictions as of the mid-2020s.

The peptide backbone is chemically modified to resist rapid enzymatic breakdown in the body. A fatty acid side chain promotes binding to serum albumin, which slows renal clearance and supports an extended circulation time. These modifications allow less frequent administration than would be possible with an unmodified peptide. The precise contribution of glucagon receptor activation to the overall metabolic effect remains an area of active investigation, because glucagon raises glucose while also increasing energy expenditure.
Development has progressed through early- and mid-stage human studies in adults with obesity and with type 2 diabetes. Published phase 2 data reported reductions in body weight and improvements in glycemic markers over the treatment period. No regulatory agency has approved the compound for any indication, and it remains available only within controlled research settings. Whether benefits observed in trials translate into durable outcomes after treatment stops is not yet established.
Acting as a triple agonist, the molecule binds the GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors. GLP-1 activity slows gastric emptying and dampens appetite, while GIP signaling contributes to insulin sensitivity and fat metabolism. Glucagon receptor engagement raises energy expenditure and encourages fat breakdown, although it can also elevate blood glucose. Combining three pathways is intended to yield larger weight reduction than single or dual agonists, and researchers continue to examine how the balance among them shapes tolerability.
Clinical studies have reported notable reductions in body weight among participants. Early trials measured safety and explored several dose levels, and later studies tracked body-weight change over months of treatment. Investigators also monitor effects on glycemic markers, liver fat, and blood lipids. Because the compound is still in development, questions about long-term safety, cardiovascular outcomes, and durability after treatment ends remain open.
Peptides in this class degrade mainly through hydrolysis, oxidation, and aggregation. The lipid modification improves plasma residence time but can also promote self-association in aqueous solution at higher concentrations. Oxidation of methionine and deamidation of asparagine residues are common chemical liabilities that accumulate during storage. Stability studies therefore track purity loss, aggregate formation, and changes in receptor-binding potency over time under defined temperature and humidity conditions.
Solid peptide is generally held as a lyophilised powder at low temperature to slow degradation, with desiccant to limit moisture uptake. Reconstituted solutions are less stable and are usually kept refrigerated and protected from light for short periods. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided because they encourage aggregation. Laboratory handling includes work in a fume hood or laminar flow cabinet to limit inhalation and contamination. Weighing and transfer steps are performed with antistatic tools to reduce static-driven loss of fine powder.
Characterising a peptide of this size relies on a combination of chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the intact molecule from related impurities, while electrospray mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and detects truncation or oxidation products. Peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion verifies the amino acid sequence and locates modified residues. Because the molecule carries a lipid chain, assays must also distinguish the correctly conjugated product from incompletely acylated species.
Published information places retatrutide in clinical development rather than on the market as an approved therapy. Early-stage and mid-stage trials have examined tolerability and changes in body weight, and larger studies continue to report results over time. Open questions include the durability of effects after treatment stops, the composition of weight lost, and cardiovascular outcomes over long periods. Statements about definitive benefit should therefore be treated as provisional. Regulatory status varies by jurisdiction and changes as applications are reviewed.
Retatrutide is an investigational synthetic peptide designed to activate three distinct receptor systems within a single molecule. Its pharmacological profile combines activity at the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor, the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor, and the glucagon receptor. This arrangement places it within a broader class of agents often described as multi-agonists, which contrast with compounds that engage one or two targets. Research interest centers on whether simultaneous signaling produces effects that single-receptor agonists cannot achieve alone. A single molecular entity also simplifies manufacturing and delivery logistics compared with combining separate agents.
Mechanistic proposals link each receptor to a different physiological role. Activation of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptors is associated with reduced appetite, slower gastric emptying, and glucose-dependent insulin release. Glucagon receptor signaling, by contrast, is associated with increased energy expenditure and altered lipid handling, though it can also raise blood glucose. The design intent is to balance these contributions so that weight reduction is enhanced without unacceptable glycemic trade-offs. How well that balance holds across individuals is not fully resolved.

Christopher Layne claims that the preponderance of power has been the dominant US strategy during both the Cold War and the post-Cold War periods. "Preponderance's strategic imperatives are the same as they were during the post-World War II era: pacification and reassurance in Europe and East Asia, and protection of these regions from instability in the periphery." The post-Cold War strategy of preponderance holds that "only a preponderance of US power ensures peace" which is "the result of an imbalance of power in which US capabilities are sufficient, operating on their own, to cow all potential challengers and to comfort all coalition partners. It is not enough consequently to be primus inter pares [...] One must be primus solus." Layne since the beginning of the post-Cold war period expects the preponderance of power to trigger counterbalancing. He finds that "it was the bipolar structure of the postwar system that allowed Washington to pursue a strategy of preponderance successfully" and thereby smother the emergence of other great powers. But the preponderance of power which "others found merely irritating in a bipolar world may seem quite threatening in a unipolar world." Because of these structural factors, "an American strategy of preponderance [...] is doomed to failure"; it will "cause other states to balance against the United States". Overturning the scholarly conventional wisdom, however, the current preponderant power seems to render inoperative the counterbalancing long central to research in international relations.
==== Naked mRNA injection ==== Naked mRNA injection means that the delivery of the vaccine is only done in a buffer solution. This mode of mRNA uptake has been known since the 1990s. The first worldwide clinical studies used intradermal injections of naked mRNA for vaccination. A variety of methods have been used to deliver naked mRNA, such as subcutaneous, intravenous, and intratumoral injections. Although naked mRNA delivery causes an immune response, the effect is relatively weak, and after injection the mRNA is often rapidly degraded.
Reversing the decision, the Supreme Court ruled that a defendant in a selective prosecution case had to make a "credible showing" of evidence that the prosecution policy in question was intentionally discriminatory. The court ruled that Bass did not do so because he failed to show that similar cases with those different races were treated differently. Specifically, the Court rejected Bass's use of national statistics and held that they were not representative of cases. Both cases have been criticized for perpetuating racially motivated legal standards. It has been suggested that the current standard is impossible to meet for selective prosecution claims because the relevant data may not exist, or the prosecution may have sole access to it.
=== By other insects === Honey bees are not the only eusocial insects to produce honey. All non-parasitic bumblebees and stingless bees produce honey. Some wasp species, such as Brachygastra lecheguana and Brachygastra mellifica, found in South and Central America, are known to feed on nectar and produce honey. Other wasps, such as Polistes versicolor, also consume honey. In the middle of their life cycles they alternate between feeding on protein-rich pollen and feeding on honey, which is a far denser source of food energy.

The expression of aflatoxin-related diseases is influenced by factors such as species, age, nutrition, sex, and the possibility of concurrent exposure to other toxins. The main target organ in mammals is the liver, so aflatoxicosis is primarily a hepatic disease. Conditions increasing the likelihood of aflatoxicosis in humans include limited availability of food, environmental conditions that favor mold growth on foodstuffs, and lack of regulatory systems for aflatoxin monitoring and control. A regular diet including apiaceous vegetables, such as carrots, parsnips, celery, and parsley may reduce the carcinogenic effects of aflatoxin. There is no specific antidote for aflatoxicosis. Symptomatic and supportive care tailored to the severity of the liver disease may include intravenous fluids with dextrose, active vitamin K, B vitamins, and a restricted, but high-quality protein diet with adequate carbohydrate content.
==== Pennsylvania ==== In 2007, Pennsylvania adopted a regulation that would have banned the practice of labeling milk as derived from cows not treated with rBST. Pennsylvania's Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff made a statement in support of the measure. This prohibition was to go into effect 1 January 2008, but after the comment period, the guidelines were adjusted to only ban "rBST-free" claims and instead allow claims that farmers had pledged not to use rBST and accompany such claims with a disclaimer such as, "No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST-treated and non-rBST-treated cows."
where in aqueous solution H+ denotes a solvated proton. Often this is written as the hydronium ion H3O+, but this formula is not exact because in fact there is solvation by more than one water molecule and species such as H5O+2, H7O+3, and H9O+4 are also present. == Signs and symptoms == Arthritis entails inflammation within the joint, and presents as swelling, pain, stiffness and restricted joint movement. Symptoms of JIA vary. This is because JIA has several subtypes, which differ according to the number of affected joints, severity of disease, age of onset, prognosis and presence or absence of inflammation in other parts of the body. The key clinical feature in JIA is persistent swelling of the affected joints. Any joint can be affected, but large joints such as the knee and ankle are most commonly involved. Involvement of small joints of the hands and feet is more likely when many joints are affected ('polyarthritis'). Swollen joints may also feel warmer to touch. Swelling may be difficult to detect clinically, especially for joints such as those of the spine, sacroiliac joints, shoulder, hip, and jaw. Joint pain is an important symptom, although some children experience minimal or no pain with their arthritis. In these children, the first sign of arthritis may be limping, especially in the morning. Swelling and pain usually result in limited movement of the affected joints, for example a knee held bent causing a limp, or being unable to make a full fist. Limited movement may reduce a child's ability to fully participate in activities and undertake usual tasks such as those used for self-care. In some JIA subtypes, more non-specific symptoms of being unwell may be present, such as lethargy, fatigue and poor appetite. Children with systemic JIA usually present with fever and a classic rash and may become quite ill.

The human body produces diverse surfactants. Pulmonary surfactant is produced in the lungs in order to facilitate breathing by increasing total lung capacity, and lung compliance. In respiratory distress syndrome or RDS, surfactant replacement therapy helps patients have normal respiration by using pharmaceutical forms of the surfactants. One example of a pharmaceutical pulmonary surfactant is Survanta (beractant) or its generic form Beraksurf, produced by Abbvie and Tekzima respectively. Bile salts, a surfactant produced in the liver, play an important role in digestion. Certain caterpillars (of the moth species Spodoptera exigua, South East Asia) spit a surfactant-containing secretion at predators. This deters attacking ants, allowing the caterpillars to escape. The surfactants in the caterpillars' oral secretions reduce its surface tension. Instead of rolling off the ants' water-repellent skin like normal water, the secretion soaks the attackers. The affected ants then clean themselves, which gives the caterpillar enough time to escape.
depends only on the order in which the body has occupied its past configurations, but not on the time rate at which these past configurations were traversed. As a special case, this criterion includes a Cauchy elastic material, for which the current stress depends only on the current configuration rather than the history of past configurations. There is a tensor-valued function
